Lexmark Range Brochure 2019

B C Color page content The Black-Only run mode can engage automatically only if the entire page is black, as in page 1 (see table below). Pages 2 and 3 represent color pages with significantly different color content. In page 2, a spot amount of red is used in the logo. To produce either this spot color or to produce page 3, the color imaging components must be engaged for the en- tire page. Both spot color and extensive color pages require all color imaging components be engaged. Page content Device interprets page as Black only Black with spot color Black with extensive color Black-Only Mode – Automatic engagement In the default “Max Yield” usage setting, the engagement of the Black-Only run mode is determined by the color content and sequence of pages within the print job or queue. The examples below illustrate when the device will operate in the normal or Black-Only run modes. Examples 1 and 2 show the device entering the Black-Only run mode when 3 or more consecutive Black-Only pages are encountered. Example 3 highlights print jobs that frequently mix Black-Only and color pages, limits the engagement of the Black-Only run mode. Recommendations If the user wants to minimize non-productive color imaging components’ usage and ensure optimal page yield and consistent print quality throughout their life (at the expense of throughput speed as described above), the following actions are recommended: ›› 1. Set the printer’s usage setting to “Max Yield” – the default setting – Design multi-page documents with color content on consecutive pages. ›› 2. Whenever color output is not necessary, manually engage the “Black-Only” mode by selecting ‘Print in black and white’. ›› 3. Limit use of spot color on documents whenever possible.
